The highest mountain in the Black Forest

At 1,493 meters, it is the highest peak in the Black Forest and delights visitors in every season with impressive views and a variety of nature experiences.
Whether you’re taking a leisurely stroll, a long hike, or a ride on the Feldberg Railway, the area around the Feldberg offers breathtaking panoramic views, rare plant and animal species, and plenty of places to stop for a bite to eat. On clear days, you can even see all the way to the Alps. In winter, the region also transforms into one of Germany’s largest ski areas outside the Alps.
The Feldberg is very easy to reach by car, whether you're using public transportation or driving your own car. There are plenty of free hiking parking lots in the area.
We’ve selected two unforgettable routes for you that allow you to reach the Feldberg on foot and fully enjoy the nature and unique atmosphere of the Black Forest during hikes that last several hours but are very relaxing.
Our tip: From July through early October 2026, the town of Feldberg will host a free open-air exhibition titled " Kunst am Bach " featuring works by sculptors Christopher Blas Lampart and Ursula Luise Walz.
Combine nature and art on a walk along the Erich-Fink-Weg in Falkau. Impressive sculptures set amidst the Black Forest landscape. The trails are accessible and family-friendly. A special experience for anyone who wants to enjoy culture and nature in a relaxed way.
Feldberg Panorama Trail
If you want to experience the High Black Forest at its best, don’t miss the Feldberg Panorama Trail. This roughly 8.8-kilometer loop trail winds through the impressive landscape surrounding the Black Forest’s highest peak and offers breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains—on a clear day, you can even see as far as the Alps. The hike takes about three hours and is ideal for anyone who wants to enjoy nature and some exercise.
Along the way, you’ll find varied trails, stunning viewpoints, and cozy mountain huts that invite you to take a relaxing break. The tour combines breathtaking natural beauty with authentic Black Forest hospitality and is especially well-suited for a leisurely day trip.

Double the Joy at the Summit
This varied hike connects two of the most beautiful destinations in the Upper Black Forest: the idyllic mountain village of Todtnauberg and the Feldberg, the highest peak in Baden-Württemberg. Spanning about 15 kilometers, the route winds through dense forests, along scenic high-altitude trails, and past impressive natural landscapes. The tour is ideal for experienced hikers who want to spend an active day in the mountains
A special highlight is the ascent via the Stübenwasen. Here, the world’s longest bench invites you to take a well-deserved break while enjoying a magnificent panoramic view. The trail then continues to the Feldberg summit, where the Feldberg Tower, the Bismarck Monument, and—on a clear day—an impressive Alpine panorama await you. Before the tour ends, the trail also passes by the legendary Feldsee, one of the most beautiful cirque lakes in the Black Forest.
